Food prices rose 5 per cent globally during August, according to the UN, spurred mostly by the higher cost of wheat, and the first signs of unrest erupted as 10 people died in Mozambique during clashes ignited partly by a 30 per cent leap in the cost of bread.

Food inflation inches up to 10.86 %

NEW DELHI: Halting the fortnight long downward movement, food inflation inched up marginally to 10.86 per cent for the week ended August 21 from 10.05 per cent a week ago, mainly owing to higher prices of cereals, fruits and milk.

Food inflation eases to 10.35 per cent

Food inflation eased to 10.35 percent for the week ended Aug 7 from 11.4 per cent a week earlier. The easing in prices of some pulses, and a sharp drop in prices of vegetables, potatoes, and onions helped temper the overall food index.
