Report reveals big holes in FDA food plant inspections

Less than a quarter of the 51,229 food plants under Food and Drug Administration jurisdiction were inspected annually and 56 percent were not checked at all during a five-year period ending September 2008, according to a survey of the agency by its in-house watchdog.
